2018-2019 Martell School of Dance Scholarship Recipient I started dancing at a very young age and 5 years ago I joined the Martell dance family. I study all forms of dance and this will be my 2nd year on student staff. I graduated from Miller South VPA this past spring and I will be attending Firestone CLC in the fall for the Akron school for the arts dance program and the pre-IB program. I’m currently a member of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts and the National Junior Honor Society. I also received the Excellence in Dance award and the R.O.C.K award for representing outstanding character through kindness.

This is my 8th year dancing and my 5th year at Martell. I’ve taken ballet, pointe, jazz, acro, lyrical, and modern. I am also on my schools dance team, an honor roll student, and in National Honor Society. This will be my second year on staff at Martell and I can’t wait for the season!

This is my 10th year dancing at Martell, and I love the people I have met and the styles of dance I have learned from amazing teachers. Although dance is a huge part of my life, some other hobbies I enjoy are photography (taking pictures of my family and nature), playing volleyball with friends, and writing stories for my Power of the Pen team.

Kathryn Ferguson ,17 Firestone High School, Junior

Katie has been dancing at Martell for 11 years, and has been in Firestone’s ASA dance program for 2 years. She attended Miller South with an interest area of dance for 5 years. She has participated in many dance intensives and conventions including Dancemakers, All Ohio Dance Festival, The Movement Project, and Turn It Around. This past summer she received a scholarship to attend Inlet Dance Theatre’s 4 week long summer intensive. She has received five and ten year awards at Martell and the Most Improved Junior Dancer award in 2015. After high school she plans to go to college with a major in dance and begin auditioning for modern/ contemporary dance companies.

I have been dancing for 12 years and I enjoy it because it’s a great way to meet new friends and let out some steam. Some of my other hobbies include lacrosse, working with animals, and hanging out with friends. My favorite styles of dance are tap and hip hop! I loved demonstrating last year and I’m excited to do it again.

This will be Milenna’s 13th year dancing at Martell. She was the 2016-2017 Martell School of Dance Scholarship Student. She attends Firestone High School and is enrolled in the ASA dance and the Pre – IB programs. She is an honor roll student at Firestone. The summer of 2018, she attended a week long dance intensive with the Radio City Rockettes in New York City. Milenna hopes to one day become a Rockette.

Megan Williams, 15, Copley HS, 9th grade

I’m Megan Williams and I’m 15 years old in 9th grade at Copley High School. I have been dancing for eight years at Martell and my favorite styles are fusion, tap, and clogging, but I’ve taken all the styles before. I have received my five year award, and I have been to many dance conventions and master classes. Including a tap master class with Anthony Locascio, the All Ohio dance Festival, and last summer I went to the Movement Project summer intensive. Besides dance I love to hang with my friends, sing, and act. I’m extremely excited to share my love of tap with aspiring young dancers at Martell Tu.

My name is Mia Winkelmann. I have been dancing for 10 years, 7 of them at Martell. This is my second year on staff and I love helping other students become stronger dancers. I am so excited for this year!

I enjoy playing the piano and I’ve been playing for 9 years. I am very active in my church youth group and this year i am the senior co-chair. This my 12th year dancing and I enjoy all different styles of dance.

I am on the Honor Roll and I earned the Distinguished Scholar award. I took my first dance class right before I turned three and I have been dancing ever since. I participated in the Teen LEAD Volunteer Program at Akron City Hospital, and I have just begun volunteering at Pegusas Farm on the weekends.

This year is my 11th year dancing at Martell and 4th year on Student Staff, and I love it here at Martell School of Dance! Throughout my many years at the studio, I have gone on a number of conventions including DanceMakers 2015-2018 and The All Ohio Dance Festival 2014-2018, along with other performance opportunities. I am very involved in my school and parish as well. I am looking forward to a great dance season and being around the studio!
